The Obidient Movement has emphatically ruled out any possibility of Mr. Peter Obi accepting a vice-presidential slot in the 2027 election, insisting that its support is exclusively for his emergence as President of Nigeria.
In a statement titled “The Peter Obi Presidency: A Joint Project of All Nigerians,” National Coordinator Dr. Yunusa Tanko addressed what he described as “deliberate misrepresentations and malicious propaganda” surrounding a recent interview attributed to the movement.
Dr. Tanko stressed that the Obidient Movement is a nationwide, values-driven democratic group focused on good governance, accountability, and the rule of law. “Our singular purpose is the emergence of the right leadership for Nigeria through lawful and democratic means,” he said.
The statement made it clear that the movement’s support for Mr. Obi stems from his “competence, integrity, compassion, vision, discipline, economic expertise, democratic credentials, international credibility, and a consistent record of prudent leadership.” According to Dr. Tanko, these qualities resonate with a majority of Nigerians across all regions, generations, and political affiliations.
“The Obidient Movement is not mobilized to support Mr. Peter Obi as a vice-presidential candidate to anyone. Our support is exclusively for his emergence as President of Nigeria,” the statement added.
Currently, the movement is backing Mr. Obi within the African Democratic Congress (ADC) platform for its presidential candidacy. Dr. Tanko affirmed that the movement would abide by transparent and credible processes but would act decisively if the process is compromised. “Wherever Mr. Peter Obi, acting within the law and guided by conscience, chooses to pursue his presidential mandate, the Obidient Movement will move with him,” he said.
Reiterating its loyalty to Mr. Obi’s leadership vision rather than political expediency, the movement pledged to remain steadfast in its principles. “Our commitment to the realisation of a Peter Obi Presidency remains unshakable. We are convinced it represents the surest path to national renewal, economic recovery, and accountable governance,” the statement concluded.
As Nigeria approaches a critical electoral period, the Obidient Movement called on all citizens to stay focused and united to secure the leadership the country urgently requires.
