Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has dismissed as false a viral report alleging that he authored a notice announcing his own death, describing the publication as the handiwork of “never-do-wells.”
The misleading article, widely circulated across social media platforms and WhatsApp, claimed it contained Obasanjo’s “latest memoirs” and portrayed it as a reflective final message devoid of his usual pointed commentary. The piece suggested it was akin to a farewell note about his life.
Reacting to the development in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, the former president firmly denied any involvement in the purported publication. He stated that the document was fabricated and deliberately attributed to him.
“For my final note in this address, I want to point your attention to the work of some never-do-wells,” Obasanjo said. “They publish and circulate a fake paper credited to me, claiming that I am writing and giving notice of my death.”
He maintained that the claim reflects the wishes of its authors rather than reality, adding that he remains in good health and committed to his ongoing engagements.
“That is their wish and surely not God’s wish for me. God has assured me that He has more for me to do on earth, and He has given me the wherewithal to do it,” he stated.
Obasanjo further asserted that those behind the false narrative would ultimately face consequences, stressing that he remains steadfast and undeterred.
The former president concluded his remarks with a reassurance of his well-being, declaring, “I dey kampe as usual.”
