Military sources have confirmed that a feared terrorist commander, known as Kalamu, was among those eliminated during a decisive ambush carried out by Special Forces of the Nigerian Army’s 8 Division in Sokoto State on Monday.
The development sparked jubilation across several communities in Sabon Birni Local Government Area, where residents—long plagued by kidnappings and deadly attacks—trooped into the streets to celebrate the troops’ success.
The operation, first reported by Vanguard, detailed how the Special Forces thwarted an attempted invasion of a Sokoto community by heavily armed terrorists intent on kidnapping villagers. Following a fierce gun duel, troops neutralised 11 terrorists.
Security sources disclosed that blood trails found during the follow-up sweep indicated that several fleeing fighters escaped with gunshot injuries.
According to a source:
“In the early hours of December 8, 2025, 8 Division Special Forces stormed a bandits’ hideout around Kurawa village in Sabon Birni LGA.
The terrorists were attempting to attack Tara village, but the troops successfully foiled the operation.
A total of 11 terrorists were neutralised, and eight AK-47 rifles, five extra magazines, and 26 rounds of 7.62mm ammunition were recovered.”
The military said the successful offensive aligns with ongoing efforts to deny criminal elements and non-state actors the freedom to operate across the region.
