Northern Governors, Traditional Rulers Hold Emergency Security Meeting in Kaduna

0

The Northern States Governors’ Forum and the Northern Traditional Leaders Council convened an emergency meeting on Monday at the Sir Kashim Ibrahim House in Kaduna amid worsening security challenges across the region.

The high-level session, held behind closed doors, is jointly chaired by the Forum’s Chairman and Gombe State Governor, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, alongside the Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III, representing the traditional institution.

Sources at the venue say the deliberations are focused almost entirely on the escalating wave of banditry, terrorism, kidnapping, and persistent farmer-herder clashes that have claimed hundreds of lives and displaced thousands in recent months.

The meeting comes as insecurity in northern Nigeria continues to deteriorate. In Kebbi State, at least 24 schoolgirls were recently abducted by bandits before reportedly regaining freedom days later. In a separate incident, armed gangs stormed a Catholic private school in Niger State and abducted over 200 pupils; about 50 of them have since escaped and reunited with their families.

More details from the ongoing meeting are expected to emerge as resolutions are reached.
