NNPP Vows to Contest 2027 Elections Independently, Dismisses Talks with Tinubu or APC

The New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) says it is fully preparing for the 2027 general elections and will not engage in any secret negotiations with President Bola Tinubu or the Presidency.

National Chairman Dr. Ajuji Ahmed emphasized that the party’s national leader is not “romancing or making any conversation with either the President or with the Presidency,” describing the statement as genuine and non-political.

Speaking on the party’s strategy, Dr. Ahmed said the contest for Kano in 2027 will be decided by the people, not by forming alliances. “I don’t believe that because we want to be successful, we have to join the APC. We believe that joining the APC will guarantee our failure in Kano,” he said.

He added that the NNPP aims to grow its influence nationwide and position itself as a strong contender for the presidency. According to Dr. Ahmed, the NNPP is the only party aside from the APC with a solid structure across all states and local governments.

The chairman also clarified that while former governor Rabi’u Musa Kwankwaso is influential, “he is not the deciding factor. The deciding factor is the NWC of the party. And he knows that and he will respect that.”

Responding to claims that the APC fuels crises in opposition parties, Dr. Ahmed disagreed, arguing that parties face difficulties due to internal weaknesses, not external interference. “Whatever party is in crisis, it is in crisis due to its own internal contradictions,” he said.

Looking ahead, he described the future of the PDP and Labour Party as uncertain, while noting that the NNPP prefers a low-profile approach. “We prefer to be silent than to be noisy like PDP because they are noisy for all the wrong reasons. And we are silent for all the right reasons,” he said, adding that when the NNPP unveils its plans, critics will see the foresight of his warnings.
