NNPP Denies Reports of Kwankwaso Backing Defection to APC, Calls Claims “Shameful Falsehood”

The New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) has dismissed reports suggesting that its national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has shifted his support to the All Progressives Congress (APC) and endorsed Kano State Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf’s move to the party.

In a statement signed by Ladipo Johnson, the NNPP’s national publicity secretary, the party described the reports as “a terrible lie” and accused those spreading them of lacking conscience.

“The former Governor of Kano State has not and will not change his stance on this issue,” Johnson said. “Intentionally twisting his words to trick the public into thinking he supports the defection is as childish and pitiful as it gets.”

The controversy followed a report that surfaced on Tuesday night, claiming Kwankwaso had publicly supported Governor Yusuf and other NNPP members joining the APC. The report cited a short video message shared on Facebook by Kwankwaso’s media assistant, Saifullahi Hassan.

Johnson warned that members feeling pressured to join the defection should leave the party voluntarily, noting that Kwankwaso has called out certain party members for betraying the trust of the people of Kano State.

“By God’s grace, the 2027 elections will pass, and those who chose to betray trust will face the judgment of the people of Kano,” Johnson added.

The NNPP emphasized that Kwankwaso remains committed to reducing political tensions in Kano and maintaining the integrity of the party.
