NNPP Begs Gov. Abba Yusuf to Stay, Dismisses APC Defection Rumours in Kano

The New Nigerian Peoples Party (NNPP) has appealed to Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, not to defect to the All Progressives Congress (APC), amid growing speculation of a possible political realignment in the state.

The appeal was made on Monday in Kano by the NNPP Chairman in the state, Suleiman Dungurawa, during a press briefing.

Dungurawa firmly dismissed reports suggesting that some members of the party were working to create a rift between Governor Yusuf and the NNPP’s national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso. He described such claims as unfounded and the handiwork of mischief makers.

He also urged residents of Kano State to remain calm and continue with their lawful activities, assuring them that the party leadership was fully in control of the situation.

Warning party members against being used to destabilise the NNPP, Dungurawa cautioned them not to append their names to documents allegedly being circulated to fuel division within the party.

“On behalf of all of us collectively, we once again appeal to them, for the sake of Allah and the Prophet, not to leave this party and not to defect to the party that we have opposed and which the masses and other voters have rejected,” he said.

Dungurawa added that the party was fully aware of ongoing moves by certain individuals planning to defect to the APC but stressed that such actions did not have the backing of the party leadership.

“I want to make it clear that the Kano State party, the national party, and our national leader, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, together with other leaders, do not approve of what is happening,” he stated.

His remarks come in response to comments credited to the Director-General of the Protocol Directorate at the Kano State Government House, Abdullahi Rogo, who recently claimed that Kano residents and voters had agreed that Senator Kwankwaso and Governor Yusuf should defect from the NNPP to the APC.

The NNPP leadership, however, insists that there is no official plan for such a defection and reaffirmed its commitment to the party’s ideals and leadership structure.
