The Federal High Court in Abuja has postponed the terrorism trial of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu, to October 16, 2025, following the failure of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) to present its medical report on his health status.
Justice James Omotosho, who presided over the case, had earlier directed the NMA President to assemble a board of medical experts to assess Kanu’s alleged deteriorating health. The examination was meant to determine whether the medical facilities at the Department of State Services (DSS) headquarters were adequate for his treatment or if he should be transferred to the National Hospital, as requested by his legal team.
The board’s report is also expected to indicate whether Kanu is fit to continue with his trial.
At Wednesday’s sitting, DSS counsel Suraj S’aad (SAN) informed the court that the medical board had not yet completed its findings and requested a one-week adjournment to finalize the report.
With no objection from the defence, Justice Omotosho granted the request and fixed October 16, 2025, for the submission of the medical report and further hearing in the case.
