NLC, TUC to Hold Massive Solidarity Rally for FCDA Strikers

Abuja, Nigeria – The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC) have announced plans to stage a peaceful solidarity rally on February 3 in support of the Joint Union Action Committee (JUAC) and its ongoing strike by Federal Capital Development Authority (FCDA) workers.

In a joint statement signed by Benson Upah, General Secretary of the NLC, and Nuhu Toro, Secretary General of the TUC, the unions expressed unwavering backing for JUAC members, who have been on an indefinite strike since January 19 over unpaid salaries and longstanding welfare grievances. Key administrative offices, including the FCTA Secretariat and FCDA headquarters, have been shut down since the strike began.

“The action will send a clear message that labour will resist all forms of intimidation and injustice against workers,” the unions said. They described the struggle as legitimate, non-negotiable, and ongoing until justice is achieved, urging JUAC members to remain steadfast, courageous, and united.

The unions emphasized that the rally will be lawful and peaceful, directed at the FCDA, and called on all affiliates and state councils to mobilize members massively. “Intimidation and repression will not weaken workers’ resolve,” the statement added, stressing that workers’ rights are won through collective struggle, not given freely.

The NLC and TUC reassured workers across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) that they will continue to receive full support in their fight for justice.
