Abuja — Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, has stated that Nigerians deserve elections that inspire public trust, strengthen national unity, and genuinely reflect the will of the people.
The senator made the remark in a post on her official Facebook page on Tuesday, shortly before the Senate convened an emergency plenary session to deliberate on proposed amendments to the Electoral Act.
According to DAILY POST, the Senate commenced the emergency sitting amid growing debate over key provisions of the amended electoral law.
“As I step into the Senate chamber today, I carry with me the hopes and expectations of millions of Nigerians who yearn for stronger democratic safeguards enshrined in our laws,” Akpoti-Uduaghan wrote.
She emphasized that the real-time electronic transmission of election results remains a crucial reform needed to enhance transparency and safeguard the integrity of Nigeria’s electoral process.
“Real-time electronic transmission of election results is a critical step toward deepening transparency, preserving the sanctity of the people’s mandate, and restoring public confidence in our electoral process,” she added.
The senator’s comments come amid nationwide calls for electoral reforms aimed at ensuring credible elections and strengthening democratic institutions ahead of future polls.
