Popular Nigerian gospel artist Bunmi Akinnanu, widely celebrated for her hit song “Omije Ojumi,” has passed away, a close source confirmed on Tuesday evening. The singer’s family has yet to release an official statement, but further updates are expected in the coming days.
Akinnanu had been battling a serious leg ailment, prompting months of public prayers and appeals for divine intervention. In late 2025, a video surfaced of her receiving prayers at G.F. David Ministries in Ibadan, Oyo State, showing her seated with her leg extended as clerics prayed for her recovery. During the service, it was revealed that she had been suffering from persistent bleeding in her leg, a condition that drew significant concern from fans nationwide.
Bunmi Akinnanu’s musical journey began at the age of 10. She later left a career in banking to focus fully on gospel music, eventually rising to prominence with “Omije Ojumi,” a song that resonated deeply with Nigerians. Over the years, she released several other gospel tracks, cementing her status as one of Nigeria’s respected voices in gospel music.
Her passing marks a profound loss for the Nigerian gospel music community and her legions of fans.
