“Nigeria Is Worth Fighting For” — Ex-CDS Gen. Christopher Musa Bows Out After 39 Years of Service

The immediate past Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), General Christopher Musa (rtd.), has urged members of the Nigerian Armed Forces to remain steadfast in their duty to defend the nation, declaring that “Nigeria is a country worth fighting for.”

Gen. Musa made the remark on Friday during his Pulling-Out Parade in Abuja, marking the end of an illustrious 39-year military career filled with dedication, sacrifice, and leadership.

The retired general described the ceremony as more than a farewell, calling it “the culmination of a career dedicated to the protection and unity of our beloved country.”

Expressing gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for the trust and opportunity to serve as Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Musa also appreciated the support of his colleagues in the military, security agencies, and Nigerians at large.

He paid special tribute to his family, acknowledging the sacrifices of his wife and children who endured his long absences and the constant fear that came with his line of duty.

“You are the unsung heroes of my service, and I owe you a debt of love that can never be fully repaid,” he said emotionally.

Musa called on serving officers to uphold professionalism, unity, and loyalty to the nation, emphasizing that the successes of the Nigerian military depend on continued collaboration with other security agencies, including the Police, DSS, and NIA.

“No single institution can win this fight alone,” he stressed.

The retired CDS thanked Nigerians — particularly the youth — for their resilience and belief in the country’s future.

“I remain a soldier at heart, a patriot committed to the sovereignty of Nigeria. This may be the end of my active service, but I will continue to serve in whatever way I can,” he concluded.
