The ongoing political tensions in Rivers State have shown no signs of abating as Governor Siminalayi Fubara pledged to thwart every attempt by his enemies to destabilize his leadership. The governor, who has been embroiled in a political rivalry with his former ally, Nyesom Wike, since late 2023, made the declaration during a crossover church service into 2025 at St. Paul’s Anglican Church in Opobo Town, Opobo/Nkoro Local Government Area.
In his address to the congregation, Governor Fubara expressed confidence in overcoming all opposition, stating, “The Red Biro is still filled. It is still here with me. Every enemy’s plan will continue to crash.” This statement was seen as a direct response to the ongoing power struggle for control over the state’s political machinery.
Fubara, accompanied by churchgoers, led a rendition of a powerful hymn that resonated with the themes of victory and divine intervention. The song, which includes the lines, “At the mention of your name, God, every knee shall bow. At the mention of your name, every tongue confesses. That you are Lord, you are Lord, you are King, you are King of kings,” was not only a moment of worship but a rallying cry for the people to renew their faith in God’s guidance for the year ahead.
The governor emphasized the significance of the song’s message, encouraging the people to trust in God as the ultimate navigator of their journey towards triumph in the New Year. Despite the ongoing political crisis, Fubara’s firm resolve highlights his determination to maintain control of the state’s political structure in the face of fierce opposition.
