Excitement brews as Prince Harry and his wife, Meghan Markle, prepare to touch down in Nigeria on Friday, May 10, 2024. The royal couple’s visit is in response to an invitation extended by the Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa.

During their three-day stay, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will engage with wounded soldiers and their families, a cause close to Harry’s heart as the founder of the Invictus Games. Their visit aims to bolster the recovery efforts of injured servicemen and women following Nigeria’s participation in the 2023 Invictus Games in Düsseldorf, Germany.

The couple’s itinerary includes a visit to the Nigerian Army Reference Hospital in Kaduna State, where they will meet with wounded soldiers undergoing medical treatment. Additionally, a special novelty match between the CDS team and the Duke’s team will be held at the armed forces Officers’ Mess in honor of the soldiers.

Abidemi Marquis, Director of Sports at Defence Headquarters, highlighted the positive impact of programs like Invictus on soldiers’ well-being, emphasizing the need for continued support for wounded and injured servicemen and women.

Prince Harry and Meghan will also engage in philanthropic endeavors, including a visit to a school supported by their NGO in Lagos, where they have constructed a basketball court. Their trip concludes with a courtesy call to the Governor of Lagos State before departing Nigeria on Monday morning.

The royal couple’s visit underscores their commitment to supporting veterans and their families, fostering international collaboration, and promoting initiatives aimed at improving the lives of those affected by military service.
