Dar es Salaam, Tanzania – President Bola Ahmed Tinubu arrived in Dar es Salaam on Saturday night to participate in the Mission 300 Africa Energy Summit, a pivotal event aimed at accelerating universal energy access across the continent. The president touched down at 10:20 pm local time (8:20 pm Nigerian time) and was received by Tanzania’s Foreign Minister, Mahmoud Thabit Kombo, and Nigeria’s Chargé d’Affaires to Tanzania, Salisu Suleiman.

The two-day summit, jointly hosted by the Tanzanian government, the African Union, the African Development Bank Group, and the World Bank Group, begins today, January 27. The first day will focus on ministerial-level discussions, where participating nations, including Nigeria, are expected to present their national energy strategies, referred to as energy compacts. These plans outline each country’s roadmap to achieving universal energy access within the next five years.

The summit’s second day, January 28, will feature Heads of State endorsing the Dar es Salaam Energy Declaration, a unified framework for Africa’s progress towards the Mission 300 objectives.

President Tinubu is scheduled to deliver a national statement reaffirming Nigeria’s dedication to achieving universal energy access and its leadership role in Africa’s energy transformation. The president will also highlight Nigeria’s clean energy initiatives and its integrated approach to energy delivery across the continent.

Accompanying the president on the trip are Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Bianca Odumegwu-Ojukwu, Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu, Special Adviser to the President on Energy Olu Verheijen, and other senior government officials.

This summit underscores Africa’s collective commitment to sustainable energy development and aligns with the continent’s broader goals for economic growth and environmental sustainability.
