Many persons have been feared dead in Emene, Enugu East Local Government Area of Enugu State, following a clash between Policemen, operatives of the Department of State Services, DSS and members of the Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB.
The clash threw Emene and its environs into chaos and disrupted church services as worshippers of various churches in the area ran helter-skelter to escape being caught in the crossfire.
Policemen had stormed Community Secondary School, Emene at about 7:00 am, where members of IPOB were meeting with an attempt to arrest the IPOB members who resisted and this led to a face-off.
Reports have it that the attempt by IPOB members to resist arrest led to the shooting, during which one IPOB member was initially killed and others injured.
However, seeing one of them in a pool of blood, other IPOB members attacked the security operatives and killed two policemen and two DSS operatives.
This led to a re-inforcement of armed security agents, comprising police, soldiers and DSS, who arrived at the scene and faced the Biafran agitators, killing about five of them and arrested over 30 IPOB members.
