Despite a Court of Appeal ruling ordering his removal, Senator Samuel Anyanwu has insisted he remains the legally recognized National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) pending a final judgment from the Supreme Court.
In an exclusive interview on Nigeria Right Now with ace journalist Dickson Iroegbu, Anyanwu clarified his position and reassured party supporters of his commitment to stability within Nigeria’s leading opposition party.
Highlighting the PDP’s challenges, he acknowledged missteps in the 2023 general elections but assured Nigerians that the party is working diligently to correct past errors and reclaim the presidency in 2027.
“There is no faction within the PDP led by Ambassador Umar Damagum,” he stated, emphasizing the party’s unity. He further pointed to the successful conduct of congresses in 29 states as evidence of progress, with only minor issues arising.
Addressing rumors of discord with Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike, Anyanwu described their relationship as longstanding, dating back to their tenure as local council chairmen. He urged that any grievances against Wike be channeled through the PDP’s Disciplinary Committee for resolution.
Anyanwu did not shy away from critiquing the APC-led administration, accusing it of stifling opposition voices and contributing to the nation’s current challenges.
The PDP stalwart remains confident of his legal standing and committed to steering the party toward victory in the 2027 elections as the case awaits a Supreme Court verdict.
