Two consignments of Loud, a potent strain of cannabis imported from abroad and weighing a combined 5,344.1 kilograms, were intercepted by NDLEA agents along the Epe-Lekki corridor and Alfa beach in the Lekki district of Lagos state.

This information is found in a press statement that Femi Babafemi, the agency’s media and advocacy coordinator, signed on Sunday in Abuna.

According to the statement, “NDLEA operatives set up an ambush along the Epe-Lekki road early on Monday, June 19, targeting a white truck carrying 50 huge bags of the illegal material, each weighing 2,434.1kg. The anti-narcotics officers successfully demobilized the truck transporting the drugs, but the truck driver leaped out and fled in a security Hilux van that was following the truck.

“In a similar vein, personnel of the Marine Command of the Agency the next day, Tuesday 20th, also acting on intelligence, intercepted a boat carrying the same imported drug, weighing 2,910kg, as it arrived from Ghana. When two Ghanaians, Monday Saba, 30, and Hakeem Kwana, 27, were discovered with the shipments, they were swiftly detained.

“In Niger State, two suspects, Abubakar Mohammed, 32, and Nuhu Sale, 43, were detained with 31 jumbo bags of skunk weighing 517kg on Sunday, June 18 along the Abuja Expressway in Suleja, while Amina Alilu, 30, was detained with 171kg of the substance on June 21 in Ogbogodo village, Dekina LGA, Kogi state.

Ogedegbe Dorcas, 34, a fake female security agent, was also apprehended with 30 kg of cannabis on June 22 in the Ajegunle Asa Dam Area of Ilorin, Kwara State, while Segun Olajide, 42, was apprehended with 49.2 kg of the same substance on June 24 in Oyo town by NDLEA agents.

Babafemi added that in the wee hours of Monday, June 19, six suspects—Onyeka Onyedinma, Monday Onyedi, Alex Eboh, Edosa Imariagbe, Godbless Tunde, and Godstime Osarobo—were taken into custody after the operatives in Edo State stormed the Ekudo forest in the Uhunmwode LGA and destroyed a cannabis farm measuring 2.494863 hectares.

Meanwhile, NDLEA Chairman/Chief Executive, Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Retd) has commended the Lagos, Kogi, Niger, Kwara, Oyo, Edo, and Marine Commands for blocking over five tons of illicit substances from going into circulation in the country in the past week, charging them and their compatriots across other formations to remain committed to the corporate goal of ridding Nigeria of the menace of substance abuse and illicit drug trafficking.
