Thirty-one people have been arrested by Lagos State Government authorities for illegally disposing of rubbish in prohibited sites, a violation of Lagos environmental rules.

Aside from that, the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) has been notified to impound a yellow salon car with the license plate FST 670 YF after the driver, a woman, was spotted throwing garbage from her car this morning at Adeniyi Jones junction inwards Aromire.

The Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) announced this on its official social media handle on Tuesday to warn residents against breaking the law.

According to LAWMA, they were detained between 4 and 5 a.m. by men from Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI) while disposing of their waste in unapproved sites across the state.

LAWMA further stated that they would appear before the Environmental Court in Oshodi, as required by state environmental law.

“A woman driving a yellow car, with number plate FST 670 YF, was spotted this morning at Adeniyi Jones junction inwards Aromire, dropping waste from her car,” it added of the woman. All attempts to get her to pick up the trash were futile, as she drove away.

“All LASTMA officials are hereby notified to flag her car down anywhere she is seen. She will be arrested and prosecuted according to the environmental laws of the state.

“We cannot consolidate on the efforts to make the environment cleaner and better when a few individuals are bent on derailing government’s efforts.”
