At the PINK Awards, which took place in Lagos on Sunday, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State was given the title of Governor of the Year. Additionally, Sen. Adenigba Fadahunsi of Osun East Constituency won Philanthropist of the Year 2023, while Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly Mudashiru Obasa received a Lifetime Achievement Award.

During the fifth anniversary of the awards, Dr. Joe Odumakin, the promoter, clarified that PINK stands for Prestige, Integrity, Nobility, and Knowledge. The purpose of the prize, according to Odumakin, is to honour those who have excelled in a variety of endeavours. She asked the next generation to follow the moral examples set by the winners over the years.

We are honouring people in their various fields of endeavour, great achievers and we are reminding them that we need more from them.

“I want the youth present here to learn the virtues of simplicity, humility, courage and resilience from our awardees. Know that suicide is not an option regardless of whatever situation you find yourselves in,” she said.

The keynote speaker, Sen. Fadahunsi, thanked the organizers for the honour that had been given to him earlier through Dr Bolaji Akinyemi. As he outlined his constituency projects, he claimed that philanthropy meant making a positive difference in people’s lives.

As per his statement, he has had a noteworthy influence on the fields of employment, empowerment, rural development, health, and education. Instead of building the nation, he counselled his fellow government officials to concentrate more on building the people.

“The people we build for peace and prosperity will in turn build for us a nation of peace and prosperity for all.

“Since my election into the Nigerian Senate, over 10,000 constituents have benefited from our empowerment programmes like training, start-up grants, loans with low-interest rates, distribution of 500 bikes, 200 minibuses and agricultural implements.

“We have lightened up Ife-Ijesa senatorial district with solar-powered street lights, provided 20 transformers, also assisted in the construction of rural roads among many other projects we have successfully carried out,” he stated.

Representing Gov. Makinde, his Chief of Staff, Mr Segun Ogunwuyi, said, “This award means we have to double our efforts, the governor appreciates this and we promise not to rest on our oars, we will continue to move people from poverty to prosperity.”

Oba Sulaimon Raji and Oniba Ekun of Iba, who won the Excellent Traditional Institution Humanitarian Icon Award for 2023, are among the other beneficiaries of the award. Gospel Icon of the Year went to Righteous man Erhabor, a reggae musician, while Best Actor of the Year went to Chidi Mokeme.

Prince Adebiyi Adesina took home the Transformational Impact Award, while Alhaja Salawa Abeni was given the Legendary Award.
