Ghandi-Removed-As-Soun-of-Ogbomoso-Court-Orders-Fresh-Process

Oba Ghandi Olaoye was deposed as the new Soun of Ogbomoso by an Oyo State High Court session held in Ogbomoso. In order to fill the stool, the court has also mandated a new selection procedure.

On September 8, 2023, the kingmakers of the town installed Olaoye as the next Soun, as confirmed by the Oyo State Government.

Ghandi was hauled to court by Prince Kabir Olaoye, one of the candidates for the Soun of Ogbomoso stool, who claimed Ghandi was ineligible for the role.

Justice K.A. Adedokun restrained the Governor, Attorney General, and Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters in Oyo State from presenting any instruments of office in any type of ceremony or from issuing a certificate of installation to Ghandi while the mandatory injunction already filed before the court is heard and decided. This was done while ruling on an ex-parte motion filed by Kabir.

Kabir had claimed that the Ogbomoso chieftaincy declaration and the necessary process were not followed in the choice of Ghandi.

As a result, he begged the court to overturn Ghandi’s appointment and installation and to mandate that the kingmakers hold new elections.

Justice Adedokun issued his ruling on Thursday, nullifying the election of Ghandi as Soun of Ogbomoso and ordering the kingmakers to begin a new selection process to choose a new ruler for the town.
