Explosion rocks Kano again, injures 20, destroys shops, others

A gas explosion has rocked Sheka quarters in the Kumbotso local government area of Kano State, leaving no fewer than 20 persons injured and shops razed by fire.

A resident of the area, Malam Idi said the gas exploded and went into flames leading to the number of casualties and the burning down of shops.

He said the incident affected mostly persons in the gas shop and other business owners in adjacent shops.

When contacted, the Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Fire Service, Saminu Yusif, confirmed the incident.

He said that 20 people were involved, but had been rescued alive and now receiving treatment in hospitals.

Mr. Yusif said that the incident was allegedly caused by a fire from a man frying and selling fish near the gas shop.

On May 17, 2022, no fewer than nine persons were killed and several injured in an explosion that occurred in the Sabon Gari area of Kano state.

Kano State Police Command later confirmed that the explosion which rocked Kano on May 17, 2022, was from an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), and not a gas cylinder as earlier claimed.

It was said that the development followed an outcome of an investigation by the Explosive Ordnance Disposal-Chemical, Biological, Radiological, and Nuclear Defense, EOD-CBRN, and Operation Puff Ader.
