COVID-19: 417 new infections, total jumps to 49,485

The Nigerian Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, disclosed via it’s official Twitter handle on Monday night, 17 August, 2020 the confirmation of 417 new cases of corona virus, COVID-19, bringing the total number of infections in the country to 49,485.

According to it, the 417 new infections were reported from 17 states across the country.

The agency’s data showed that Lagos State, which has been the epicenter of the virus recorded the highest for the day with 207 new cases, followed by Kaduna with 44 cases, Ondo- 38, Abia- 28, Anambra- 21, Plateau- 20.

Other states with fewer new cases include Bauchi- 13, Oyo and Ebonyi- 9 each, Delta and Edo- 7 each, Enugu- 6, Niger- 3, Gombe- 2, Ogun, FCT and Kano with 1 case each.

However, 2 deaths were reported bringing the total till date to 977 deaths recorded in the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

The NCDC also reported that out of the 49,485 cases confirmed, 36,834 have been discharged.

Meanwhile, the Centre pleaded with Nigerians to remain focused on collective efforts to manage COVID-19.
