The newly appointed Commissioner of Police in Lagos State, Tijani Fatai, has pledged to intensify the fight against cultism and violent crimes as part of efforts to strengthen security across the state.

Speaking on Thursday during his inaugural address as the 42nd Commissioner of Police of the Lagos State Police Command, Fatai outlined a comprehensive strategy aimed at tackling emerging security threats through proactive and intelligence-driven policing.

He assured residents that the command would prioritize crime reduction, visibility policing, and the restoration of peace in identified hotspots, stressing that criminal elements would no longer find refuge in Lagos.

“Our operational focus will include reducing crime to the barest minimum, tackling cultism and violent crimes, strengthening visibility policing, ensuring discipline on our roads, and restoring peace in identified black spots across the state. Criminal elements will find no safe haven in Lagos,” he said.

Describing his appointment as a call to duty, Fatai acknowledged the unique security challenges tied to Lagos’ status as Nigeria’s commercial hub, emphasizing that a secure environment is essential for economic growth and public trust.

He also highlighted the importance of community policing, noting that stronger collaboration between the police, residents, and other stakeholders would be key to effective crime prevention.

“We will continue to build trust, deepen cooperation, and encourage residents to see the police as partners in progress,” he added.

The commissioner identified youth engagement as a critical component of his strategy, stating that constructive interactions with young people would help curb criminal activities and promote lasting peace.

Fatai further stressed the need for synergy among security agencies, assuring that the command would work closely with the military and other relevant bodies to enhance intelligence gathering and coordinated operations.

He warned officers against misconduct, reiterating that discipline, professionalism, and respect for human rights remain non-negotiable under his leadership.

“Discipline, professionalism, and integrity are non-negotiable. The command has zero tolerance for police brutality and all forms of misconduct,” he said.

Fatai called on residents to remain law-abiding and support security agencies with credible information, reaffirming his commitment to protecting lives and property across Lagos State.
