Nigeria’s newly appointed Minister of Defence, Gen. Christopher Musa (rtd), has issued a firm warning to criminal elements, declaring that the relentless killing of innocent citizens must come to an end.
Musa, who until recently served as Chief of Defence Staff, stated this on Friday during his official assumption of duty at the Ministry of Defence headquarters in Abuja. He was welcomed by enthusiastic ministry staff who sang solidarity songs as he arrived.
Addressing officials, the minister emphasized that restoring security and public confidence will be his top priority.
“We do not have time. We are going to hit the ground running, and we must respect the human rights of Nigerians,” he said. “The shedding of innocent blood must stop. Children should be able to return to school, and farmers must go back to their farms without fear. With the support and prayers of Nigerians, we cannot fail.”
His appointment followed the resignation of Mohammed Badaru, after which President Bola Ahmed Tinubu nominated Musa to take over the strategic portfolio. The Senate confirmed him on Thursday after a thorough screening, and he was officially sworn in at the Presidential Villa, Abuja, on Friday.
Musa’s return to public office marks a continuation of his long-standing commitment to strengthening national security and restoring peace across the country.
