Netanyahu Skips Gaza Summit in Egypt, Citing Jewish Holiday Conflict

Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has declined an invitation to attend Monday’s Gaza summit in Egypt’s resort city of Sharm el-Sheikh, saying the event coincides with a Jewish holiday.

In a statement from his office, Netanyahu expressed gratitude to U.S. President Donald Trump for the invitation but said he would be unable to attend as the summit overlaps with Simhat Torah, which begins Monday evening and lasts until sunset on Tuesday.

Egypt’s presidency earlier revealed that the Israeli leader was invited to join the talks after a joint call between Trump, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, and Netanyahu.

The summit is expected to focus on efforts to address the ongoing Gaza crisis and broader regional stability.
