Senator representing Delta North, Ned Nwoko, has refuted claims by his estranged wife, Regina Daniels, that he married her when she was 17 years old, describing the allegation as “false, misleading, and malicious.”
In a statement shared across his social media platforms on Thursday, Nwoko dismissed the reports as part of a coordinated attempt to tarnish his image amid their ongoing marital crisis.
“It has come to my attention that false claims are being circulated by Regina, suggesting that I married her when she was 17 years old. These claims are entirely untrue and misleading,”
Nwoko said.
The lawmaker explained that during their first meeting, Regina told him she was 21 years old and even presented her Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) voter’s card as proof, showing her date of birth as October 10, 1998.
“During my first meeting with Regina, I asked her age, and she told me she was 21. She showed me her voter’s card as evidence, and I have kept that document ever since,”
he stated.
Nwoko maintained that their marriage took place six years ago, insisting that by all verifiable records, Regina Daniels is now 27 years old.
“According to all verifiable records, our marriage took place six years ago. Any suggestion that I married her at 17 is false and should not be believed,”
he added.
The senator further alleged that Regina’s recent statements were influenced by her “current mental condition,” claiming she had begun but failed to complete rehabilitation for drug addiction.
“Until this is verified, I urge the public to approach her claims with caution and discernment, especially considering her ongoing battle with illegal drug use,”
Nwoko said.
The couple’s public fallout intensified after Regina admitted to using illicit substances, accusing her husband of introducing her to drugs for his sexual satisfaction. Nwoko has since denied the allegation, blaming Regina’s brother, Sammy Daniels, for her drug use and failed rehabilitation.
The situation escalated further following Sammy’s arrest in Lagos and subsequent transfer to Abuja, where he was arraigned and remanded pending bail conditions.
Amid the controversy, Regina revealed that her previously estranged parents had reconciled following the family’s crisis, particularly her brother’s arrest.
