Electricity distribution companies have confirmed the gradual restoration of power supply in parts of the country following the national grid collapse that plunged several areas into darkness on Monday.
Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) and Port Harcourt Electricity Distribution Company (PHED) disclosed this in separate statements posted on their official X (formerly Twitter) accounts on Monday night.
The national grid collapsed at about 2:00 pm on Monday, disrupting electricity supply across many states. However, power sector operators later confirmed that restoration efforts commenced hours after the incident.
By midnight on Monday, electricity allocation to distribution companies had risen significantly to 3,411 megawatts, from as low as 50 megawatts recorded at the point of collapse.
Confirming the improvement, AEDC said power supply had been progressively restored across parts of its franchise area following increased energy availability from the national grid.
“Further to our earlier notice regarding our loss of supply from the national grid, we wish to inform you that our energy availability has improved,” AEDC said.
“As a result, power supply has been progressively restored across parts of our franchise area. Restoration efforts are ongoing to ensure full stabilization of supply.”
Similarly, Port Harcourt Disco informed its customers that electricity supply was being restored gradually, urging patience as the process continues.
“Kindly note that our feeders are gradually being restored,” the company stated.
DAILY POST reports that the latest incident marks the fourth national grid collapse recorded in Nigeria since the beginning of 2025, further highlighting ongoing challenges in the country’s power infrastructure.
