Popular Nigerian skit maker, Nasiru Lawal, widely known as Nasboi, has criticised fellow content creator and streamer, Carterefe, for downplaying the skit-making industry that brought him fame.
Carterefe had stirred controversy during a recent appearance on The Honest Bunch Podcast, where he claimed that skit making “is dead.” According to him, he became depressed after feeling the industry was “dying,” a situation that pushed him to launch a streaming career.
Reacting to the remarks during an interview with Naija FM in Lagos, Nasboi described Carterefe’s comments as unfair to the industry that helped build his brand.
While acknowledging that creators may evolve and explore new opportunities, Nasboi stressed that such transitions should not come with criticism of the industry that first gave them visibility.
“Evolving is not a bad idea, but talking down on the industry that made you is a crime in my books,” he said.
Nasboi added that although he and Carterefe remain friends and speak regularly, the streamer often speaks carelessly.
“Carterefe is my friend, we speak every time, but he is a loose talker. You can’t say skit making is dead. People are blowing up every day with skit making,” he said.
He further argued that the growth of creators into other fields does not mean the skit-making industry has become irrelevant.
“The fact that people evolve doesn’t mean the industries they are leaving are dead,” Nasboi added.
