NANS Gives FG, ASUU 7 Days to End Rift

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has issued a seven-day ultimatum to the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) to resolve their ongoing dispute and avert another strike that could cripple academic activities nationwide.

In a statement signed on Wednesday by its President, Olushola Oladoja, the students’ body expressed deep concern over the renewed tension between the two parties, stressing that any disruption to the academic calendar would be unacceptable.

Oladoja noted that the education sector had enjoyed two uninterrupted academic years under President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Administration — a record feat since the return to democracy in 1999.

He warned that the current threat of industrial action by ASUU was putting that progress at risk.

“It is, therefore, in this spirit that NANS appeals to both ASUU and the Federal Government’s negotiation team to find a workable and lasting solution within the next seven (7) days,” the statement read.

NANS further cautioned that many Nigerian students, now studying through education loans, cannot afford another break in the academic calendar or an extended stay on campus due to avoidable crises.
