Former Governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, has debunked reports claiming he was appointed to lead former President Goodluck Jonathan’s 2027 presidential consultation team in the Southwest.
The speculation alleged that Mimiko was selected for the role on the recommendation of former Osun State governor and current National Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Rauf Aregbesola, to coordinate consultations ahead of a potential political comeback by Jonathan.
However, in a statement issued in Akure by Eni Akinsola, Mimiko’s former Chief Press Secretary, the report was described as “a concocted rumour dressed in news.”
Akinsola stated that the former governor had neither been contacted nor appointed for any campaign-related assignment, emphasizing that Mimiko was not “job-hunting to lead any campaign.”
“The falsehood in the report is obvious from the get-go. It is just the work of a journalist flying with concocted rumour dressed as news,” the statement read.
“The Mimiko that I know respects former President Jonathan but has neither been reached nor appointed for a campaign that is still the subject – and may well end as a subject – of fanciful speculation. I am sure he is also not job-hunting.”
He further noted that as the nation’s political atmosphere heats up ahead of 2027, fabricated stories about prominent figures like Mimiko—popularly known as Iroko—are likely to surface more frequently.
