Margaret Obi Makes History as First African High Court Judge in England and Wales

A Nigerian-born British legal luminary, Mrs. Margaret Obi, has been appointed as a High Court Judge in England and Wales, marking a historic milestone in the British judiciary.

Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, announced the development in a post on X (formerly Twitter) titled “Celebrating Excellence Beyond Borders.” He hailed the appointment as a proud moment for Nigeria and a testament to the global impact of its citizens.

Describing Mrs. Obi’s elevation as “historic,” Obi noted that she is the first African-born person ever appointed to the prestigious position. He commended her remarkable career spanning over 27 years of legal practice and seven years of judicial service, characterizing her rise as a reflection of hard work, integrity, and professional excellence.

Obi also clarified that, despite the similarity in names, Mrs. Margaret Obi is not his wife, explaining that his spouse is formally known as Mrs. Margaret Peter-Obi.

In his message, the former governor praised Mrs. Obi’s accomplishment as a shining example of Nigerian excellence on the global stage, emphasizing that it underscores the potential of Nigerians to excel when provided with the right opportunities.

He added that such achievements should inspire collective national effort to build a Nigeria that recognizes, rewards, and retains excellence within its own borders.
