Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca says his side has taken a clear step forward compared to last season, insisting the Blues are now much closer to competing for the Premier League title.
Speaking after Chelsea’s 1–1 draw with Arsenal at Stamford Bridge on Sunday, the Italian coach expressed confidence in the team’s growth and direction.
“We are better than last season. We are closer,” Maresca said in his post-match remarks. “We will see where we are in February or March, and then assess our target. We showed we are heading in the right direction. The performance has been fantastic.”
The London derby ended level thanks to goals from Trevor Chalobah and Mikel Arteta, leaving Chelsea in third place on the table—six points behind league leaders Arsenal after 13 matches.
Maresca, however, believes the progress made so far signals a promising campaign ahead for the west London side.
