Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive, fair, and humane governance, saying his administration is prepared to face both praise and criticism in its pursuit of development.
Speaking during the presentation of the 2026 Budget Proposal to the Oyo State House of Assembly, Makinde announced plans to personally engage with residents affected by the ongoing 110km Senator Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road Project, starting Wednesday.
He assured residents that the government would explore all options, including adequate compensation and resettlement for those impacted by the road expansion. “When I took up this job, I envisaged situations like this. Progress must be people-centred, and we remain committed to ensuring development is fair, humane, and inclusive,” Makinde stated.
Clarifying that his administration had not carried out any new land acquisitions for the project, Makinde cited documents from the previous government showing that 500 metres on each side of the road had already been acquired by 2018.
Describing the Circular Road Project as critical to equity, growth, and shared prosperity, the governor warned politicians against attempting to exploit the initiative for personal gain. “Oyo residents are discerning,” he noted.
Makinde also highlighted the importance of institutional reforms over personality-driven governance, pointing to initiatives such as the Oyo State Anti-Corruption Agency (OYACA) and the Oyo State Rule of Law Enforcement Authority, which aim to strengthen systems, digitise government processes, and enhance transparency.
“Our legacy will not be measured by buildings alone but by the values that sustain progress long after we have left office. Oyo State is moving from a consumptive economy to a productive one, with industries and commercial solid minerals exploration driving growth,” he added.
He concluded by emphasising continuity and innovation in governance: “We have not failed in over six years, and we will continue to grow, innovate, and prosper together with our people.”
