Mahdi Shehu Warns APC of Impending Fall, Says ‘Power Built on Arrogance Cannot Last Forever’

Human rights activist and outspoken public commentator, Mahdi Shehu, has cautioned that the All Progressives Congress (APC) may soon experience the same political downfall that once consumed the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), warning that power sustained by arrogance, injustice, and disregard for citizens cannot endure.

In a statement shared on his official X handle on Tuesday morning, Shehu drew parallels between the PDP’s dramatic loss of power after 16 years and what he described as the APC’s growing detachment from the realities facing ordinary Nigerians.

“Whatever goes up must surely come down. Just as PDP rose and fell after its years of pride and betrayal, APC is now walking the same path,” Shehu declared.

He recalled how the former PDP National Chairman, Vincent Ogbulafor, once boasted in 2008 that the party would rule Nigeria for 60 years — a prediction that ended abruptly as the PDP crumbled under its own weight.

“God showed them who truly owns power. The same will happen to APC if they don’t change,” he warned.

Shehu accused the ruling party of undermining national institutions, silencing dissent, and neglecting the people it swore to serve. He cautioned that political arrogance and disregard for justice are precursors to disgrace, urging the APC leadership to learn from history before it repeats itself.

Quoting the Bible to drive home his point, Shehu wrote: “Psalm 37:10 says, ‘A little while, and the wicked will be no more; though you look for them, they will not be found.’”

He concluded that true leadership is measured not by how long a party stays in power, but by how justly it uses that power in service to the people.
