LAWMA to Launch ‘Show Your PSP Receipt’ Enforcement Drive in Apapa-Iganmu

The Lagos Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) has announced plans to commence a new enforcement initiative tagged “Show Your PSP Payment Receipt” in the Apapa-Iganmu axis of Lagos State, as part of efforts to curb illegal waste dumping and strengthen environmental compliance.

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of LAWMA, Muyiwa Gbadegesin, disclosed this on Saturday during a monitoring visit along the Lagos-Badagry transit corridor.

According to him, the enforcement exercise will involve routine inspections of residential buildings, commercial outlets, and business premises. Occupants will be required to present evidence of registration with their designated Private Sector Participant (PSP) waste operator and proof that their payments for waste collection services are up to date.

Gbadegesin explained that the initiative is designed to address the underlying causes of indiscriminate refuse disposal by verifying property-level compliance with PSP payment obligations.

“This initiative is designed to tackle the root causes of indiscriminate waste disposal by verifying property-level compliance with PSP waste collection payment obligations,” he stated.

He noted that the exercise would enable LAWMA to identify properties without valid waste collection arrangements, close service gaps, and prevent the accumulation of refuse that often leads to illegal dumping in affected communities.

Emphasising the collective responsibility of maintaining a clean environment, the LAWMA boss stressed that sustainable waste management depends on both residents’ cooperation and the accountability of PSP operators.

“Environmental compliance is a shared responsibility, and consistent waste collection depends on both resident participation and operator accountability,” he added.

Gbadegesin urged residents and business owners in Apapa-Iganmu to regularise their PSP payments and ensure proper waste storage ahead of the enforcement drive.

The upcoming operation forms part of LAWMA’s broader strategy to strengthen waste management systems and promote a cleaner, healthier environment across Lagos communities.
