Lagos Govt Announces 15-Day Closure of Marine Bridge for Urgent Repairs

The Lagos State Government has announced that the Marine Bridge in Ijora, Apapa Local Government Area, will be temporarily closed for 15 days to allow essential maintenance work.

Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday, noting that the rehabilitation will be executed in two phases.

According to Osiyemi, Phase One will run from Saturday, October 11, to Saturday, October 18, covering the section from the foot of Marine Bridge (Lawani Oguntayo Road by UBA, inbound Apapa/Costain).

“Motorists from Ijora Olopa heading to Apapa will be diverted to the Ijora Causeway Access Ramp by Omni Retail Company to connect Ijora 7up, then turn left to Lilypond Access Ramp and continue their journeys,” he explained.

Phase Two will follow from Sunday, October 19, to Saturday, October 25, focusing on the stretch between Ijora Badia and Lilypond Access Ramp (inbound Apapa).

During this phase, traffic from Ijora Olopa to Apapa and Costain will be diverted about 50 meters before the work zone into a contraflow with Costain-bound vehicles, rejoining the main carriageway after 500 meters.

Similarly, motorists from Apapa heading toward Costain, Lagos Island, or Ijora Olopa will experience a temporary contraflow of about 500 meters before regaining full access after the maintenance area.

Osiyemi urged all road users to remain patient and cooperate with traffic officials, emphasizing that the temporary closure is part of the Federal Ministry of Works’ ongoing maintenance on the bridge’s bearings to ensure structural safety and durability.
