The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has fired back at former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, accusing him of suffering from “political selective amnesia” over his recent comments on defections in the Southeast.
Obi had stated that “nobody can capture the Southeast with defections,” following the ongoing wave of political crossovers from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC across the Southeast and South-South regions.
Reacting in a statement, APC Lagos spokesman, Mogaji Seye Oladejo, said Obi lacked the moral standing to criticize anyone on defection, describing him as “the undisputed master defector in Nigerian politics.”
“It’s amusing that Peter Obi, who moved from APGA to PDP and then to Labour Party, now pretends to be the voice of political loyalty,” Oladejo said. “According to credible whispers, he’s even shopping for another platform ahead of 2027.”
The APC spokesman added that Obi’s political career “has been built on opportunism and expediency,” insisting that if there were a trophy for defection, “Obi would be its unchallenged winner.”
Oladejo dismissed Obi’s claim of political dominance in the Southeast, saying the region’s growing alignment with the APC was voluntary and driven by Nigerians’ desire for inclusion, infrastructure, and national unity.
“Obi needs to understand that power isn’t served à la carte — it’s earned through structure and bridge-building across Nigeria,” Oladejo stated. “His politics of isolation and emotional appeal no longer move Nigerians who now demand substance, not sympathy.”
He concluded that Obi now stands “politically stranded — abandoned by allies, weakened by reality, and walking alone in a wilderness of his own making.”
