Abuja, Nigeria — The leadership crisis rocking the Labour Party escalated on Wednesday as Ken Asogwa, Special Adviser to Interim National Chairman Senator Nenadi Usman, dismissed allegations that her faction invaded the party’s National Secretariat.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television, Asogwa countered claims made by the Julius Abure-led faction, which had accused the Nenadi-Usman group of storming the party’s headquarters at night and carting away valuables.
According to Asogwa, those making the allegations were, in fact, responsible for attempting to unlawfully take over the secretariat.
“Those accusing us of invasion are actually the hoodlums who tried to reclaim the National Secretariat in the dead of the night,” he said.
He further stated that following a Federal High Court judgment delivered on January 30, 2026, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) officially recognized Senator Nenadi Usman by updating its records to reflect her leadership.
Asogwa also disclosed that INEC recently invited Usman to its quarterly consultative meeting with political party leaders—an engagement traditionally reserved for recognized party chairpersons.
“On that basis, we resumed duties at the National Secretariat on Tuesday in line with the court’s directive,” he added.
The development marks the latest twist in the ongoing tussle for control of the Labour Party, as both factions continue to assert legitimacy amid legal and institutional battles.
