Labour Party Faction Rules Out Obi for 2027, Says Three Alternatives Already on the Table

Factional National Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party (LP), Abayomi Arabambi, has declared that Peter Obi will not emerge as the party’s presidential candidate in the 2027 elections, insisting that new options are already being considered.

Speaking on Channels Television’s Lunchtime Politics on Monday, Arabambi said the party has identified three potential presidential hopefuls from the South-West, South-South, and South-East but refused to disclose their names, claiming it could endanger their safety.

“We are going to do our 2027 without Peter Obi, he will not have our ticket. If he likes, let him be promoting Nenadi Usman. We know their agenda, which is to turn Nigeria to the South-East, and that is not going to be acceptable,” Arabambi stated.

He accused Obi’s supporters — popularly called the Obidients — of creating unnecessary tension in the country, describing them as “political extremists.”

Arabambi revealed that among the three possible candidates, the party’s deputy presidential candidate in 2023 — a woman from the South-South — is also under consideration.

“If we mention their names now, I can assure you they will be kidnapped because some people are determined to kill Labour Party since we didn’t allow them to hijack the party for political insurrection,” he said.

The factional spokesman stressed that while Obi and his loyalists pursue coalition talks ahead of 2027, the Labour Party is holding its internal discussions to determine its own direction without him.
