Labour Party Disowns Fake Social Media Accounts, Warns Public

Abuja — The Labour Party (LP) has declared that it is currently not operating any official social media accounts, warning Nigerians to ignore information circulated on its behalf online.

The party made this known in a statement issued on Monday in Abuja by Ken Asogwa, Senior Special Adviser (Media) to the Interim National Chairman.

Asogwa said the party’s leadership had been alerted to a fake X (formerly Twitter) account operating under the name “Nigeria Labour Party (LP)” with the handle @NewsLp26689, describing it as unauthorized and misleading.

According to him, checks revealed that the account was created in January 2026, shortly after a Federal High Court judgment affirmed Senator Nenadi Usman as the party’s Interim National Chairman.

“For the avoidance of doubt, the Labour Party’s only known social media accounts on Facebook and X are currently not in use,” Asogwa stated.

He listed the accounts as:

  • Facebook: Labour Party-Nig (about 12,000 followers)
  • X: @LabourPartyNG (about 839,000 followers)

Asogwa disclosed that following the court ruling, the party had formally written to the former leadership to hand over the official accounts, expressing optimism that the process would be concluded peacefully.

He stressed that, pending the recovery of the accounts, all official communications from the party would continue to be issued strictly through approved press statements from the Office of the Interim National Chairman.

“The public is hereby advised to disregard any information from the so-called ‘Nigeria Labour Party (LP)’ account with the handle @NewsLp26689. The account is a parody and not authorised by the party’s leadership,” he said.

The party also thanked the media for what it described as professional and unbiased reportage on matters concerning the Labour Party.
