Kwara Govt Sets Up ‘Safer Kwara’ Security Committee as Insecurity Worsens

Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, has inaugurated a high-powered security committee to craft new strategies for strengthening public safety across the state.

The committee, known as the ‘Safer Kwara’ Security Committee, is chaired by the Deputy Governor, Kayode Alabi. It is tasked with developing short-, medium- and long-term security measures tailored to the state’s emerging threats.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Rafiu Ajakaye, the committee will engage in extensive consultations with key stakeholders — including traditional rulers — to design a security blueprint that reflects local realities.

The committee comprises senior government officials and security experts such as the Special Adviser on Security Matters, Brigadier General Saliu Tunde Bello (rtd); Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Affairs and Community Development, Abdullahi Bata; and Senior Special Assistant on Security, Alhaji Muhyideen Aliu.

Others include Special Assistant on Security, Moshood Gobir; three local government chairmen representing each senatorial district; and Mrs Olufunke Mercy Shittu, PhD, from the Office of the Head of Service, who will serve as secretary.

Ajakaye noted that the governor has given the committee four weeks to submit its report, after which additional government actions are expected. The initiative forms part of a broader plan to boost surveillance, enhance intelligence sharing and strengthen community-level resilience across the state.

Kwara has recorded several security breaches in recent weeks — including kidnappings and bandit incursions around the Ekiti axis — fueling public concerns and demands for urgent intervention.
