Kwankwaso: I Have No Price Tag, My Conscience Is Not for Sale

Rabiu Kwankwaso, national leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), has declared that he cannot be influenced or bought in politics, insisting that his integrity has no price tag.

The former Kano State governor made the assertion while reacting to recent political developments, addressing issues of loyalty, betrayal and the evolving political climate in Kano State.

Kwankwaso noted that while politics naturally involves both victories and losses, betrayal often fuels public anger—especially at a time when many Nigerians are grappling with insecurity and economic hardship. He warned that politicians who abandon principles for personal gain often end up trapped in political arrangements with no clear exit.

According to him, acts of betrayal have continued to erode the credibility of some political platforms and are partly responsible for the growing loss of public trust, particularly in the face of poor handling of security and economic challenges.

Rejecting the widespread notion that every politician can be bought, Kwankwaso stressed that his conscience is not for sale.

“People often say that everyone has a price in Nigeria. If you are searching for someone without a price tag, then come to Rabiu Kwankwaso,” he said.

He also described Kano’s political landscape as distinct, noting that voters in the state are politically aware and difficult to sway with money or material inducements.

“Kano politics is different. Where else can someone come with bags of money and think they can simply buy people during meetings?” he asked.

Kwankwaso added that if wealth were his primary motivation, he would have openly placed a value on himself, stressing that no amount of money could buy his conscience.

He further cautioned politicians and voters against succumbing to short-term inducements during elections, warning that such decisions often result in prolonged suffering.

“You may endure hardship for four years, then be given peanuts one day, and end up suffering for another four years,” he said.

Kwankwaso concluded by urging political actors to remain guided by principles and focus on the long-term interests of the people, warning that leadership built on inducement and betrayal cannot deliver sustainable development.
