Kremlin Dismisses Claims Epstein Was Russian Spy Amid New File Releases

0

The Kremlin has dismissed as absurd suggestions that convicted US sex offender Jeffrey Epstein was a covert Russian agent, following renewed scrutiny triggered by the release of millions of documents linked to the late financier.

Responding on Thursday to questions about Epstein’s alleged ties to Russian intelligence services, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov brushed off the claims, describing them as unserious.

“I’m tempted to make a lot of jokes about that version, but let’s not waste our time,” Peskov said.

The remarks come as Polish authorities prepare to examine Epstein’s purported links to Russian secret services after the latest tranche of Epstein-related files was made public.

The newly released documents show Epstein on several occasions expressing interest in meeting Russian President Vladimir Putin, although there is no evidence that such a meeting ever took place.

Peskov also told Russian state media earlier this week that the Kremlin never received any formal request from Epstein, who died in a New York jail in 2019 while awaiting trial on sex trafficking charges.

Putin’s name appears frequently in the documents, largely in the form of news articles about the Russian leader, alongside what appear to be repeated but unsuccessful attempts by Epstein to arrange a meeting.

The files further detail Epstein’s extensive efforts to recruit young women from Russia and transport them to Europe and the United States, adding to the growing body of material surrounding his international network and activities.
