Kano — The Kano State Government has assured residents that the prolonged emirate tussle in the state will soon be resolved through peaceful and lawful means.

The Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, gave the assurance on Thursday while addressing journalists in Kano, noting that concrete steps have already been taken to restore lasting peace and stability.

According to Waiya, the state government is committed to engaging all relevant stakeholders through dialogue to ensure the emirate issue does not continue to fuel tension or disrupt governance.

“The government is determined to resolve the matter amicably, guided by respect for the rule of law, traditional institutions, and the collective interest of the people of Kano State,” he said.

Speaking on Governor Abba Yusuf’s recent defection to the All Progressives Congress (APC), the commissioner described the move as a positive development that would bring significant benefits to the state.

Waiya stated that Kano residents should expect increased dividends of democracy, stressing that closer alignment with the Federal Government would attract more projects, interventions, and development initiatives.

“With stronger collaboration with the Federal Government, Kano stands to gain more support in key sectors such as infrastructure, health, education, and social welfare,” he added.

On the political future of the deputy governor, who has yet to defect alongside the governor, Waiya said the decision remains a personal one.

He explained that the deputy governor is free to either continue working with the governor under the new political arrangement or pursue a different political path.

The commissioner reiterated that the state government remains focused on governance, unity, and development, urging residents to remain calm and supportive as efforts continue to resolve outstanding issues and move Kano forward.

He reaffirmed the administration’s commitment to transparency, peace, and inclusive governance, assuring that the interests of the people of Kano State remain the government’s top priority.
