Kano Court Suspends NNPP Chairman Pending Suit Over Party Crisis

0

A Kano State High Court on Friday issued an interim order suspending the State Chairman of the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP), Hashimu Suleiman-Dungurawa, pending the determination of a substantive suit before it.

Justice Zuwaira Yusuf granted the order following an ex parte motion filed by one Shuaibu Hassan and nine other applicants, all members of the NNPP from Gargari Ward in Dawakin-Tofa Local Government Area of Kano State.

The applicants, through their counsel, K. Njidda and S. A. Muhammad, urged the court to uphold the disciplinary process that led to Suleiman-Dungurawa’s suspension by the party’s state executive.

DAILY POST reports that Suleiman-Dungurawa, who hails from Gargari Ward, Dawakin-Tofa LGA, was earlier suspended on December 30, 2025, after 27 executive members of the party endorsed a resolution removing him as state chairman.

In their application, the claimants alleged that Suleiman-Dungurawa denigrated the office of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, created divisions within the NNPP in Kano State, and failed to pay mandatory party dues. They further asked the court to determine whether the disciplinary action taken against him was in line with the provisions of the NNPP constitution.

The respondents in the suit are Suleiman-Dungurawa and the NNPP.

Ruling on the motion, Justice Yusuf restrained Suleiman-Dungurawa from parading himself as the NNPP Chairman in Kano State pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.

“It is hereby ordered that the suspension of the first respondent on December 30, 2025, shall be maintained pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice. The applicants are also ordered to serve the court processes on the respondents,” the judge ruled.

The matter has been adjourned to a later date to allow all parties to respond.
