The office of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Kalu, has dismissed media reports claiming that he has declared interest in contesting the Abia State governorship election in 2027.
In a statement issued on Sunday by his Chief Press Secretary, Levinus Nwabugbiogu, the Deputy Speaker described the report as false, misleading, and lacking in credibility.
Nwabugbiogu said Kalu remains fully focused on delivering his four-year mandate as the representative of Bende Federal Constituency and on serving Nigerians in his current legislative role.
“We categorically state that the report is baseless, unfounded, and lacks credibility,” the statement said. “The Deputy Speaker has not made any declaration, either privately or publicly, to contest for the governorship of Abia State in 2027.”
The statement further demanded an immediate retraction of the report by the media organisation involved, accusing it of publishing unverified information capable of misleading the public.
While distancing Kalu from any current governorship ambition, the statement noted that his political family would make known his future political intentions, if any, at the appropriate time.
