Abuja — The Nigerian Senate has constituted a 12-member committee to work jointly with the House of Representatives on the proposed amendments to the Electoral Act.
The President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, announced the composition of the committee on Tuesday during an emergency plenary session convened to deliberate on the contentious Electoral Act Amendment Bill.
Among the lawmakers named to the committee are Senator Orji Uzor Kalu and Senator Tahir Mungono.
The emergency session underscores the urgency the National Assembly has attached to the proposed amendments, which are expected to address key electoral and democratic concerns ahead of future elections.
Further details on the committee’s mandate and timelines are expected to be released later.
