JUST IN: FG Pushes for Death Sentence as Court Convicts Nnamdi Kanu on All Terrorism Charges

0

The Federal Government has asked the Federal High Court to impose the death penalty on Nnamdi Kanu following his conviction on all seven counts of terrorism.

Lead counsel to the government, Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, told the court that the offences for which Kanu was found guilty carry the maximum sentence under the law, leaving no room for judicial discretion.

Speaking after the verdict, Awomolo argued that Kanu showed no remorse throughout the trial, describing his conduct in court as defiant, militant, and unruly. He insisted that the severity of the sentence must reflect the gravity of the offences committed against the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

The prosecution further requested that all properties seized from Kanu be permanently forfeited to the Federal Government. Awomolo also urged the court to order Kanu’s immediate transfer to prison custody, where authorities can guarantee his safety pending the execution of the sentence.

This development follows the court’s decision earlier today convicting the IPOB leader on all charges brought against him by the Federal Government.
