Jonathan’s Former Aide Dumps PDP for APC

BREAKING: Ex-President Jonathan escapes death, loses 2 aides in auto crash

A former Senior Special Assistant to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan on Domestic Matters and Social Events, Dr. Waripamo-Owei Dudafa, has officially defected from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), marking a major political shift in Bayelsa State.

Dudafa, who previously served as a Commissioner and was once the youngest member of the Bayelsa State House of Assembly, confirmed his defection in a statement issued on Saturday, October 18, 2025, in Yenagoa, the state capital.

In a resignation letter addressed to the PDP Chairman of Southern Opokuma/Ayibabiri Ward 8 in Kolokuma/Opukuma Local Government Area, Dudafa said his decision came after “deep reflection and extensive consultations” with political allies, supporters, and family members.

“It is with a heavy heart that I tender my resignation from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) effective immediately,” he wrote.
“Throughout my time with the party, I have been deeply committed to our shared values and goals, and it has been an honour to work with so many dedicated individuals.”

Explaining the reason for his exit, the former presidential aide blamed “prolonged and unresolved disputes, especially at the national level,” which, according to him, have hindered the party’s progress and created a climate of internal conflict.

“While this decision is difficult, I remain committed to serving the best interests of our people, motivated by my dedication to their welfare and progress,” Dudafa added.

Declaring his new political allegiance, Dudafa said he joined the APC because he believes it offers “renewed hope, unity, and a stronger foundation” to address the challenges facing Bayelsa State.

“After careful reflection and consideration, I have decided to join the All Progressives Congress (APC), a platform I believe offers renewed hope, unity and a stronger foundation to tackle the challenges facing our dear state,” he stated.

Political analysts view Dudafa’s defection as a strategic move that could signal new political realignments in Bayelsa and beyond, especially given his close ties to former President Goodluck Jonathan.
